An Aberdeen furniture shop may be getting converted into a new city café if current proposals get the go-ahead.

Plans have been lodged with Aberdeen City Council to turn the Ewen and Company furniture shop at 260-262 George Street into a café and play centre.

The new café, which would be named Osmans, plans to run from 9am to 10pm and would sell tea, coffee, soft drinks, cakes, baked potatoes, baguettes and sandwiches.

The current shop sells items such as beds, wardrobes, couches, seating, tables and flooring.

Applicant Eyup Simpil, who runs the city's Osman's Cuts barber, says the new café would also feature a children's play area that would include soft play equipment.

While the council is yet to make a decision on the proposal, one resident raised concerns about the cafe's close proximity to the retirement housing block at Loch Court arguing that the extra noise from the venue might disturb elderly tenants.

Another nearby resident said that while it would be "great" to see the new business come to the area, they were concerned about Jopps Lane, located to the back of the store, becoming overrun with traffic.
