No road closures are expected and work is scheduled to take place from 3-10 a.m. to avoid interfering with traffic.

The city also said the project is expected to take around eight weeks, with an estimated $1.1 million cost that includes a $250,000 grant from the state.

While the project costs a pretty penny, the city’s public information officer, Mark Kruea, said the new addition is not only to make the area attractive but to help keep you safe.

“Ocean Boulevard is very tight and congested environment. There are cars, there are pedestrians, there are people going back and forth. It’s just a busy place and this will help separate the people from the vehicles making hopefully for a safer environment, but they also give it some frame, some shape. The handrails are very attractive,” said Kruea.

The handrail project comes as the crews near completion of a separate project to renovate the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk.
